Wind at my Back
Wind at My Back chronicles the struggles of the Bailey family - torn apart by economic hard times while trying to survive the Great Depression of the 1930's.
Blamed by her in-laws for the tragic death of her husband, Honey Bailey finds herself penniless and homeless. She is forced to leave her young boys, Hub and Fat, with their wealthy and controlling grandmother, the town matriarch May Bailey. Honey's infant daughter is sent to live with distant relatives.
The lives of the Baileys provide the central framework for stories of family bonds, and the poignancy of love. Sometimes these chapters are funny and awkward, sometimes haunting, and sometimes even full of pain. This finely-wrought drama of small-town life features a cast of domineering relatives, inspiring teachers and everyday heroines and heros of the Depression. In these bad times everyone must face disaster with good cheer and try to "muddle through" in a world where hope is just around the corner!
