The 24th Annual Gemini Awards Nominations are in, and there is good news for Anne of Green Gables ~A New Beginning.
When the nominations for these Canadian Cinema and Television awards were announced on August 25th, Anne received 3 nominations. A New Beginning was nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Achievement in Make-Up and Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic role or Mini-Series.
Barbara Hershey’s reflective take on an older Anne Shirley earned her the nod for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series. Barbara’s performance anchored the film and added a great deal of emotion. We congratulate her on this nomination.
Martha Mann, who has been working with Sullivan Entertainment on costume design since the first Anne of Green Gables film, was nominated for Best Costume Design. Martha embraced the challenge of dressing two distinct time periods with lavished and authentic period gowns.
Rounding out the nominations, Lynda McCormack and Madeleine Russell were nominated for Best Achievement in Make-Up for their work on Anne of Green Gables ~A New Beginning.
The Gemini Award presentations will be held over several evenings. The 2009 Industry Galas, in Toronto, will announce the winners for Best Costume and Best Make-Up on October 19th and 20th. The 2009 Broadcast Gala will take place on Saturday, November 14th in Calgary. There the Best Supporting Actress winner will be announced.
